Horse: Rockin Zeus (Team Thoroughbred NSW Graduate)
Rider & Owner: Jessyka Nudd
Looking back, the connection between Jessyka Nudd and Rockin Zeus feels like perfect timing. In 2024, Jessyka’s life was upended by a severe back injury—four bulging discs, with two causing permanent nerve damage. Forced out of the saddle for over a year, she faced the heartbreaking decision to sell her eventing partner of six years.

The morning she said goodbye to her long-time companion, finding another horse was the last thing on her mind. Yet that evening, while browsing the Team Thoroughbred NSW website, one profile stood out: Rockin Zeus, a bold, athletic 17.1-hand gelding by Pierro out of Yesterjoy, who was formerly trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. Zeus was simply impossible to overlook.
When Jessyka met him in person, his gentle nature was immediately clear. “He was kind, curious and willing,” Jessyka recalls. “It didn’t take long to realise this was a retired Thoroughbred racehorse worth taking a chance on.”
Bringing Rockin Zeus home marked the start of a patient partnership built on mutual trust. Standing out wherever he went, he won over onlookers with his noble presence and sweet demeanour.
Overcoming the Odds
Just as the pair began building momentum toward Equimillion, tragedy struck again. In August 2025, a severe riding accident left Jessyka with a fractured skull. While friends stepped in to keep Rockin Zeus moving forward during her recovery, the feedback was unanimous: he was a complete gentleman throughout.
Once cleared by doctors earlier this year, Jessyka and Rockin Zeus launched into five months of competition. They showcased the versatility of the Thoroughbred breed across dressage, show jumping and regional agricultural shows—including taking home a first-place blue ribbon at the Narrabri Show and earning high praise from judges at the North & North West Gymkhana.
“Through every setback, Big Zeus greets me with the same kind eye, the same willingness to try, and the same quiet belief.”
— Jessyka Nudd

The Road to Equimillion
Despite another setback when a minor farm accident left Jessyka with a fractured tibia, her spirit remains unshaken. Watching her support network step up to keep Rockin Zeus flourishing in her absence has been a powerful reminder that their journey is ultimately about resilience, trust and the extraordinary power of the Thoroughbred. As Equimillion draws near, Jessyka’s goals remain clear: stay healthy, enjoy every moment and celebrate how far they’ve come.
“Sometimes, the most meaningful victories happen long before you ever ride into the arena,” Jessyka reflects. “No matter what happens on the main stage at Equimillion, this remarkable horse has already given me something far more valuable than a rosette—he gave me my confidence back.”
