Team Thoroughbred NSW Training Academy is launching new programs designed to better prepare those interested in working in the thoroughbred racing industry for future employment opportunities.
The Stablehand Job Ready Program and Trackwork Rider Academy aim to create practical pathways into employment and form part of a wider strategy to bring new people into the industry through hands-on training, workplace experience and support. The programs are aimed at people with an interest in working with horses and exploring career opportunities within the thoroughbred racing industry

The Trackwork Rider Academy will provide a pathway for those interested in working with horses and exploring trackwork riding as a career. The program will introduce participants to the industry and focus on developing the knowledge and practical skills associated with trackwork riding, including riding safety and techniques, pace and timing, working with thoroughbreds and understanding the routines and expectations of a professional racing stable.

The Stablehand Job Ready Program will introduce participants to the practical skills and daily routines of a professional racing stable, including safe horse handling, stable duties, horse preparation for trackwork, taking temperatures and recognising basic health concerns, trotting up, workplace safety, teamwork, following instructions, punctuality and reliability. Participants will also have the opportunity to put these skills into practice through work experience in a racing stable.
By working closely with participants and trainers, the programs aim to build confidence, reliability, practical skills and workplace readiness, giving people a better understanding of the industry and the types of employment opportunities available.
Programs will be planned for locations where there is the greatest workforce need and participant interest. Expressions of Interest have recently been released to help identify demand, preferred locations and workforce needs, which will guide the development and delivery of future programs.
