Our Purpose

Team Thoroughbred NSW is the heart of Racing NSW’s commitment to the Thoroughbred horse both on and off the track.

It was launched as the NSW Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Trust in 2011, before being rebranded as Team Thoroughbred NSW in 2019 to create a single destination for all Racing NSW’s equine welfare programs and services.

Our focus is providing a safety net for Thoroughbreds predominantly domiciled in NSW to guarantee they have a quality home to go to when they retire from racing or are deemed unsuitable for the track. If rehoming efforts have been unsuccessful, eligible horses can be given to Team Thoroughbred NSW to be cared for and retrained at one of seven properties across the state and eventually offered for adoption.

Team Thoroughbred NSW is passionate about promoting the Thoroughbred breed and its suitability for a variety of pursuits away from racing. We celebrate the successes of these horses in their new careers, create pathways for the community to interact with them and shine a light on the benefits of choosing a Thoroughbred for your next competition, pleasure, therapy or companion horse.

Team Thoroughbred NSW is a not-for-profit one-stop-shop for information, resources, emergency assistance and support.
